Foundation event raises more than $5,000

Our Oasis event was an overwhelming success.

There was 456 people who attended between 4 p.m., until closing.

The Oasis, in Eddyville, Ky., had a ''Golden Hour", grossing more in that one-hour period than it had ever before in the restaurant's history.

The Jake Hodge Foundation received $5,704.42 from the event.

The foundation now has assets in the amount of $87,760. It is getting very close to the $100,000 goal.

The foundation provides scholarships each year to area high schools and a member of the Kentucky High School Rodeo Association.

Twenty-four teams took part in the third annual Jake Hodge Memorial Scholarship Fund 4-Person Golf Tournament at Salem's Deer Lakes Golf Course. The foundation raised $1,240 during the event.

On Sept. 10, 2011, Jim Vaughan and Dale Fowler Sponsored the third annual Cowboy Classic Rodeo and donated more than $1,200 to the Foundation.

Invensys contributes to scholarship fund

Donnie Bane of Invensys Rail in Marion presents a $300 check to Chris Hodge for the Jake Hodge Scholarship Foundation. The presentation was made on Aug. 23, 2011. To date, the scholarship fund has provided more than $10,000 in assistance to area college students.

Annual Silent Auction & Rummage Sale

Our annual Jake Hodge Memorial fundraising event, the Silent Auction and Rummage Sale, will be held on Saturday morning, June 11, 2011 at the Crittenden County Middle School gymnasium.

Here are photos from the Oasis fundraiser on Dec.20. We raised $2,000 from this event. There were approximately 300 people at the event. It was a great time to meet old friends. The U-12 baseball team had a mini-reunion. Crittenden, Livingston, Caldwell and Lyon county residents were in attendance. Kara Miller from Hanson, Ky., the high school rodeo scholarship recipient, was there, too. The owner and staff at the Oasis went the extra mile to make this event a success.

Denis Hodge of Marion presented Kara Miller of Hanson with the 2010 Jake Hodge Memorial Scholarship Award. The event took place at Liberty during the Kentucky State High School Rodeo Finals. Miller will be attending college in Texas this fall where she plans to continue rodeoing while pursuing a career in the field of animal science.

Jake Hodge Memorial Project

The Jake Hodge Memorial Project was established to allow family, friends and others to post stories about Jake Hodge on this Web blog site.

Jake Hodge was 12 years old and an amazing athlete, Christian and part of a loving family when the Lord called him home on June 21, 2008.

To honor his memory, this site has been established and we request that you please post your memories and stories here. Your comments may include an array of memories or thoughts, including life lessons learned through your relationship with Jake Hodge and his family.

Jake's family wants other children to come to know Christ through their story about Jake. They are going to publish a book called, "The Jake Hodge Legacy: It's not what you take, it's what you leave behind."

"I always tried to instill that in my son, and in other children as a coach," said Jake's father, Denis Hodge, who is a high school baseball coach. "The only way to justify Jake's death is if we help win more children to Christ."
